Progress in Evidence Based Care and Solutions Are Shown On “Informed” With Rob Lowe

There have been revolutionary advances in the healthcare sector over the past decades. Better understanding of the various mechanisms causing diseases has led to the improvement of the ability to diagnose, treat, and prevent common afflictions. The innovations that underlie this progress continue advancing and accelerating change as medical interventions and new technologies offer new options for care as well as treatment.

Robe Lowe’sInformed” series highlights a range of issues in the US society. One of the episodes shows progress in evidence-based care and solutions.

Evidence-based medicine or care started in response to the limitations or challenges in both the understanding and the use of published evidence. Initially, the focus of evidence-based care was to educate clinicians to understand and effectively use published evidence to optimize clinical care. Part of the understanding involved the science of systematic reviews. As evidence-based medicine progressed, there was recognition of the limitations of using evidence alone. For this reason, there was need to emphasize on combining critical appraisals of the available evidence with the preferences and values of the patients through shared decision-making.

Evidence-based care has also progressed to incorporate and further develop the science of producing guidelines of clinical practice that are trustworthy. Some of the contributions of evidence-based care include using solid scientific interventions in the practice of medicine, recognizing the role of the patients’ preferences and values in clinical decision-making, and developing more sophisticated evidence hierarchies.

The newest episode from the “Informed” series, hosted by Rob Lowe, will be discussing the Curse of Tippecanoe

The Curse of Tippecanoe is a phrase that is used to describe the in office death of a US president elected in years divisible by twenty, starting in 1840. The “curse” is said to have originated after the Battle of Tippecanoe when the Native American leader, Tenskwatawa, cursed all future presidents elected in office the same year as William Henry Harrison. The “curse” was first widely noted in a “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!” book published in 1931. All presidents elected into office in a year ending in zero up until Ronald Reagan did in fact die during their first or second term. This fact is what gained the phrase popularity. Since the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963 no president has died whilst in office.

Rob Lowe, host of the educational series “Informed”, is presenting the topic of Cable-Stayed Bridges to viewers in the series’ latest episode.

Cable-stayed bridges are of a unique design that are the ideal structures for crossings in which a regular cantilever bridge is not long enough and a suspension bridge is not feasible for one reason or another. A cable-stayed bridge is a great alternative to a suspension bridge at a crossing where the soil on either side is not strong enough to support the main cables, or the cost of the excessive amount of cables to get across the gap would far outweigh that of the cable-stayed. Crossings that are too large would mean that a cantilever bridge would become heavy to the point that the roadway would be compromised and the cost of materials would be too great. Cable-stayed bridges also offer engineers and architects a chance to create a bridge that is not only functional, but aesthetically pleasing. This episode will include interviews with engineers and architects to find out what goes into making a bridge like this a reality and this pro’s and cons to this type of construction.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the premier of this latest episode from the “Informed” series, with your host Rob Lowe. “Informed” is produced and provided for Public Television PBS Member stations.

Organic and Free-Range Beef is the topic on a new “Informed” program with Rob Lowe

“Informed,” the popular educational series hosted by Rob Lowe brings information on organic and free-range beef. Rob Lowe gained his popularity as an actor and takes time out to help educate and inform the public on important matters that impact lives. This week he explores the benefits of organic and free-range beef.

You may want to know that the difference between free range (grass fed) cattle and organically raised cattle means. There is a difference in diet, but the outcome is healthier beef with less fat, fewer calories, and more Omega 3’s. It also means there is no use of hormones, antibiotics, or pesticides during the cattle’s growth time.

Explore the benefits of eating organic or free-range beef, and reasons you may want to switch. One benefit is a better tasting meat. Cattle that are fed rations of mainly corn and grains in a feedlot to finish them as soon as possible can lead to bland tasting, fatty meat. The nutritional value increases with either of these types of beef. The organic and free-range approach to raising cattle is better for the animals, the world, and local communities.

Join Rob Lowe on “Informed” to explore organic and free-range beef’s differences and benefits this week. What the public eats is a growing concern, and an important topic brought to you by a series designed to educate and inform the public.
